With a National Diploma in Ceramic Design from the Port Elizabeth Technikon, Richard works in the rewarding traditions of artist-craftsmen, striving to allow vessels a voice through their forms and proportions. He throws a repeat range of functional vessels for the home including mugs, vases, jugs, platters and bowls of all sizes. All vessels are fired in glazes and slips of his own formulation. Richard also creates original designs in which quality craft and fine are merge. Working in collaboration with his wife; Marcel, he produces a specialized decorative range on which smooth glazes contrast intricately hand etched patterns in textured raw clay.
